Comparatively painless, once I realized that the Y.D.'s investment income was on one of the 1099's that I'd already processed and put in the wrong place. And I'm getting money back, too.

Call me a Luddite, but I'm filing on paper and getting my refund by mail. I've never gotten electronic filing to work, and I trust direct deposit not at all. And for some reason the big summaries are refusing to print; can't tell if the problem is Linux, Windows 98, or TaxCut. At least the forms are printing OK, so I can file. And I have all the other worksheet-like information in my files. I'll try again, maybe tomorrow, with a direct USB connection to the printer.

No, it's not linux nor Windows. Instead, it seems to be a spell woven into the forms to make them print incorrectly or to delay their printing until after the filing deadline. You're lucky they printed at all!

I'll not argue about the malevolence of the tax system or whether pay-as-you-go governance is naturally better or worse - having experienced the Santa Cruz pay-per-service model, I can see the downsides of both - I will agree that the lumpish part tends to flow to some pretty bad drivers. Considering well over 70% of crashes/bugs in NT based Windows are 3rd party drivers, notably the video and printer drivers, I can see why you have cause for complaint.

I use TaxCut and had no problems. I easily skip all the videos. I no longer print everything. Just make sure there are backups... Oh, I do have a direct USB connection to my printers.

And I file electronically. Which is good, because I made an error in a 1099 Employer #, which was caught early.

And we make the deposit to one of our side Credit Union Accounts, that gets cleared out of any $$ so the goverment can't access our real money easily.

Yeah, I'm done finally. Real late this year, do to arrival of Davis Boy #4. All I have left is my Roth IRA deposit, to happen on Monday (real late on that too).

I used the web version, which didn't have any videos, thankfully.

I used TurboTax online. They save everything until October... I think I will be buying TurboTax so I don't have a security issue.

I used TurboTax this year and last year with FireFox. No videos, no activation bs on the pc, high risk of security breaches.

Live on the edge. :)
