FSF launches campaign against Microsoft Vista

Boston, MA -- December 15, 2006 -- The Free Software Foundation (FSF) today launched BadVista.org, a campaign with a twofold mission of exposing the harms inflicted on computer users by the new Microsoft Windows Vista and promoting free software alternatives that respect users' security and privacy rights.

This link is to a video that "proves" that Vista is not a ripoff of OS X. I like it.

On the Cygwin mailing list, I recently learned that Vista does security by string recognition: any program with setup or install in the name is automatically assumed to need upgraded privileges, so it prompts the user for said permissions. This really screws up Unix packages that use install to just move things from the build directory into the bin directory...

I will get Vista only when they pull all my working computers from my dead hands.
If anything will make me move to Linux with a Windows interface it is Vista. This is NOT what I want from my operating system.
Though I may go to Apple OSX with a windows interface. Same features as Vista somewhat better company. And Gates still won't see much if any money from me.
And boy do I want all my software companies to move to another os. *sigh*
