This is going to be a totally disjointed set of notes. It's been a long and tiring day.

Congrats to the Pegasus Nominees! I'm not one of them this year, which is not really surprising considering who is. It's a little disappointing that "Ship of Stone" didn't make it onto the ballot, but there's time...

Welcome to our newest filk songwriter, [livejournal.com profile] super_star_girl, AKA the Younger Daughter. She posted a couple of songs yesterday. I will note with pride that she's writing considerably better than I was at that age.

Spent some time this evening fetching her a guitar. It turned out to be the one item stored under the bed that was tall enough to get stuck there when I lowered it.

The [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat's big green motorized recliner, after several weeks of making funny noises, finally died. In a fully-reclined position, with her in it. She panicked a bit when I started moving something into position to prop up the leg lift so she could slide off; I had to back off and explain in detail what I intended to do and why. She had apparently thought that I was doing it to block her escape rather than keeping the chair from tipping over and landing heavily on top of her as she tried to slide off.

Spent some time this morning and evening re-shelving CDs, and installing a new shelf. I need to go to a hardware store tomorrow for angle brackets so I can install more shelves. Yeah, I know: if you have enough shelves, you don't have enough filk. Some of those stacks are old, and some of the CDs that are on the shelves are in the wrong place. Getting there. It's painful, because I have to work close to the floor and old bears don't bend very well these days.

I have also gotten back into the swing of ripping CDs.

A long and mostly unproductive day shopping, though I did manage to get coffee (Barefoot) and B12 (Long's).

About a 3-mile walk up Los Gatos Creek this morning, using the running shoes and the Ace ankle brace, which is basically a light, toeless sock sewed onto the middle of a strip of elastic wrap with velcro at each end. Worked pretty well, though my feet were feeling a little sore at the end. Spent the rest of the day in the slip-ons using the elastic/velcro strip from the Futuro brace.

I can haz post nao?

Off Year. (2 on, 1 off) although it could have been on via classic filk song...

There's that ... or it could simply have been that the other songs got more nomination votes this time. Since there isn't as huge a number of nominations as one could assume, sometimes tipping the balance is easy.
In a way I am somewhat relieved that A Thousand Ships isn't on, this time. I admit to being a bit sad that it never won cuz I feel it *is* a great song, but then I also felt that people were getting really tired of hearing it at the Pegasus concert, and ... well ... *shrug* I really don't want to win just cuz at some point folks would think "gah, let's get it off the ballot and make it win already".
The ebbs and flows of popularity, filker-du-jour and song-liking of the community are very hard to judge *g* :)
Ship of Stone is a wonderful song, though!

Thousand Ships had the same issue. (Is it old enough to cross over to classic yet?) I know if it were on the ballot, I would be considering voting for it since it is a good song and WILL eventually get its pegasus.

I nominated "Ship of Stone" as Best Filk Song and (as a matter of principle, even though it was not eligible) as Best Classic Filk Song. I find the 2 on, 1 off rule goofy in that it disqualifies songs precisely because they are likely to win.

Well, of course your daughter writes better than you did at her age; she's had you to learn from, whereas you probably didn't have someone talented close at hand, no? :-) Congratulations to the both o' yez.
